My work is interdisciplinary, bringing together my practices of both futsal, an indoor five-a-side variant of football, and art. As a player of both football and futsal, I have found that futsal — which suits me as a creative player — inspires my artistic practice to a greater degree: a faster-paced and more dynamic game, its intricate rotations and invisible lines of communication create a complex sequence of movements. Through line drawings, text and performance, I capture these movements, of players and the ball, to create a layered, sensory experience of the game. I work from memory, live training sessions or recorded audio to map the high intensity moments of the futsal court. 

Futsal is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, but there is no professional set-up for the women’s game. My performance work directly expresses my passions and frustrations as a female futsal player, layering elements of poetry, match audio, movement and drawing. Parallel to my own studio work, I reach out to football and futsal communities to engage in my drawing workshops in order to further evoke social-political change.

My ambition is to expand the reach of my work, merging the cultures of art and futsal to bring awareness to the game and empower female and non-binary players, while also encouraging others working in the fertile intersections between art and female sport.
